Kushtia town has gone under knee-deep water after heavy rains for the last eight days while overflowing water of the Ganges the Jamuna and the Goraf submerged crops in vast areas of Kushtia. Pabna and Sirajganj districts, reports reaching tn Dhaka said Sunday, says UNB.

The Ganges swelled 6 cm above danger mark at the Hardinge Bridge point and Gorai was flowing 25 cm above flood level at the GK Ohat point Sunday.

In Pabna. the flood situation in seven upazllas worsened due to incessant downpour in the last 48 hours and onrush of waters from the Padma and Jamuna, the Padma was flow ing 8 cm and the Jamuna 5 cm above their danger levels In Pabna.

Crops on some 15.000 acres of land have been submerged In the districts, according to official estimates.

In Manikganj, about 10,000 people were affected by flood coupled with Incessant rainfall In Daulatpur and Harirampur upazllas of the district and In Nagarpur upazlla of Tangail district.

Meanwhile, a report from Feni said downpour and onrush of waters from across the border had submerged crops on 6,000 acres of land in Parshuram, Chhagolnaiya and Sadar upazilas of the district in the last 24 hours.

Met office recorded 192 mlllmetre of rainfall during the last four days.

Sources said part of the Feni-Parshuram railway track went down water, disrupting train communication In the section.

Water was pouring in through 12 breaches on the Muhuri river flood control embankment, officials said, adding 40 sluice gates of the Muhuri Irrigation Project were opened for discharge of water into the downstream.

Flood situation In greater Sylhet remained unchanged with the Surma flowing above danger mark.
