Deposed President H M Ershad who is jailed for possessing illegal arms said Wednesday he was happy to see that the Constitution 12th Amendment Bill was passed unanimously for switching over to parliamentary democracy

Ershad. who told the reporters at the Special Judge Court that he would contest the presidential election, said that he would lx- more happy if he would get the chance to vote for the bill. He said hts party voted for the bill at his instruction, it was really an August occasion to vote for such a bill which reflected the hopes and aspirations of the people, the deposed President said adding. "I love the people of my country.”

Earlier defence lawyer Sirajul Haque made an appeal to the court that Ershad should be provided more facilities tn the jail. He said, us a lawyer he should be allowed to meet Ershad once a week for consultation.

Attorney General Amlnul Haque said facilities in the Jail were curtailed following recovery of Taka 4630 from the possession of Ershad in the Jail.

Ershad said the money had been with him when he was in Gulslian sub-jail and no opportunity had occurred to hand over the money to any one.

Hearing both the sides the learned Judge asked the Attorney General to sec whether the accused could be given more facilities in the Jail.
