SATKH1RA. Aug 7: Introduction of palli (rural) ra’-tlonlng system in the district with a view to helping the landless and distressed villagers haa not achieved its goal.

Palli ration dealers closed their shops when extreme financial and food crisis were prevailing in Sadar, Kalaroa, Tala, Debhata. Kalignaj, Shyamnagar and Assassuni upazilas of the district.

According to the reports, there are about 200 ration dealers with no ration shops in their respective unions. In most cases they take allotment from the upazlla food officers and allegedly sell lout those allotment orders to different traders in their upazilas.

Besides, some dealers collected ration cards from the card holders tn the name of renewal in June. 1990 but those cards were not returned to the card holders yet. As a result they were being deprived of ration rice which is available at government rate at Taka 7.50 per kg against market price of Taka 13 per kg.

Dwellers complain that many of their electronic gadgets went out of order due to intermittent power supply. In absence of recreational facill ties youths are forced to take recourse to anti-social activities. elders of the town complained.
