The World Bank agreed with the Bangladesh proposal regarding implementation of the flood and cyclone protection plan two years earlier than the scheduled time, report* BSS

This was expressed al a meeting of the World Bank Vice-President Attila Karaosmanoglu with Agriculture and Irrigation. Water Development and Flood Control Minister M Majid UI Haq at his parliament office Wednesday.

The World Bank Vice-President said they were helping reconstruction of the damaged embankments and implementation of the cyclone protection plan in Bangladesh

The Agriculture and Irrigation Minister M Majid UI Haq stressed on utilization of human resources to build up the nation. He told the Vice-President that during the last years the economy of the country has been totally collapsed.

He sought World Bank assis lance tn overcoming the situation for socio-economic development of the country.

Discussion was also held on withdrawal of subsidies from fertilizer and agriculture equipment.

In'the course of discussion

the World Bank Vice President congratulated the initiation of democratic process in Bangladesh unitedly. He was referring to the passage of Constitution Amendment Bill tn Jattya Sangsad unanimously for restoration of parllamcn Ury democracy.

Agriculture Secretary KM Rabbani. Irrigation Secretary MA Malik alternate Director of World Bank MA Sayeed and member* of the focal mission of the World Bank in Bangladesh were present tn the meeting.

Another report said: The World Bank Vice-President, called on Communications Minister Oh Ahmad at hi* secretariat yesterday.

They discussed the progress of World Bank financed road projects, railway sector programmes a* well as railway and road projects.

The Communication Minister explained the importance of Jamuna multipurpose bridge in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.

He requested the WB Vice-President to complete necessary formalities as early as possible to pave the way for early ImplcmenUtlon of this project which carries great national significance.
