A two-member World Bank mission on Industry Sector Work led by Mr. Pham Van Thuyet had a discussion meeting with the Bangladesh Finished Leather Exporters' Association in Its office in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The Association was represented by its Chairman Mr. A. K. M. Rahmatullah who was assisted by its vice-Chairmen and other leading members of the Association.

The discussion was held mainly on different problems and difficulties the exporters and producers have been facing now In producing crust and finished leather and leather products and how to overcome < them. The Association claimed that they produce the best quality fin-

ished leather and can not cope with India and Pakistan because India and Pakistan among other incentives give cash subsidy at the rate of 33 per cent and 28 per cent respectively to their exporters whereas exporters in leather sector in Bangladesh do not get any such subsidy or incentive from the Government.

As a result, in the international market they being the quality producer of finished leather are still a losing concern.

The mission appreciated this issue with a view to Introducing cash subsidy system by the Government of Bangladesh as this is being practised by the neighbouring India and Pakistan.
