Bangladesh Bank has re-sumed transactions with Central Bank of Kuwait just freed from 7-month of Iraqi occupation. officials here said Wednesday, reports UNB.

It has also issued necessary instructions to all scheduled banks to reactivate channels with Kuwaiti banks, they added.

Bangladesh Bank suspended all kind of functions with Central Bank of Kuwait immediately after the occupalkin and annexation of the Emirate by its larger neighbour early August last year.

Central Bank of Kuwait, currency control authority of the tiny oil-rich Gulf state, reopened during the end of last month.

The bank demonetized currency notes issued and placed Into circulation till August 1. 1990. one day before of the

Iraqi invasion.

According to an announcement of the Bank, holders of such notes outside the state of Kuwait can present those demonetized notes to any bank operating in Kuwait or through their branches and correspondents operating outside Kuwait within September 30 this year.

The Bank has also issued new notes in an attempt to protect the country's currency from the Iraqi onslaught.

Soon after the reopening of the Central Bank its Governor Sheikh Salem told newsmen. "The Iraqis who invaded Kuwait last August stole 1.3 million ounces of gold worth

nearly one billion Dollars and 350 million Kuwaiti Dinar ( 1.225 billion Dollars) in cash from the bank's vault".

Meanwhile, exchange rate of new Kuwaiti dinar has been refixed at near the pre-inva-sion level of about 3.5 Dollars.

About 65.000 Bangladeshis evacuated from Kuwait and Iraq since the Gulf crisis, were allowed to deposit dinars they brought, to the Bangladesh Bank for exchange.

A batch of about 100 Bangladeshis returning from the Gulf region in the wake of the war could not deposit their dinars due to instructions from authorities concerned.
